Geoffroy de Boismenu - The Soul and the Machine

The operating field, as its name suggests, delineates the zone of the body where the surgeon and his team intervene. In choosing a close-up, centered frame to capture this subject, Geoffroy de Boismenu creates an additional intervention in the process: that of the photographer. He “frames the frame” and this choice creates a fragmented representation of the body. The bodies disappear and give way to an almost abstract vision of the pieces and parts of which they are composed.

Geoffroy de Boismenu lives and works in Paris. He contributes regularly to magazines including BlackBook, Dazed & Confused, I-D, The New York Times, Numéro, The Fader, Celeste, Carl’s Car, Composite, Dune, Nuke, and Wish You Were Here.  His personal work, such as his series La Conversation, Suture, and Big Bang, has been exhibited at the Claska Gallery, Tokyo (2004), Studio 58, Paris (2004), and Colette, Paris (2005). He has published Libenter (Janvier / 779, 2004) and The Conversation (Damiani, 2005).
