Albrecht Kunkel

Albrecht Kunkel created a series of portraits of pregnant women before or after their consultations at the Saint-Joseph Saint-Luc hospital in Lyon. He is interested in women who will give birth to a child for the first time; his lens captures the discovery of new sensations. This work also questions the place of pregnant woman in the hospital universe.

Albrecht Kunkel was born in Berlin in 1968. Since January 2005, he lives and works in Paris. He studied photography at the Staatliche Hochschule für Gestaltung in Karlsruhe with Thomas Struth and at the Kunstakademie of Düsseldorf with Bernhard Becher. He has exhibited at Raab Gallery, Berlin (1993), White Columns, New York (1994), Centre Culturel de Beauvais, Beauvais (1996), Thomas Rehbein Gallery, Cologne (1998), Bundeskunsthalle, Bonn (2001), Chinati Foundation, Marfa (2002) and Villa Noailles, Hyères (2003).
